ashes in flux

ashes in flux

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

ashes in flux

right before the Lent of love

the fasting of heart palpitations

the array of affections

stilled

a Mardi Gras of sorts

mutual celebration of feelings

beads

not rosary

screams in a night of wild aroma

the drinks are free

the morning after is not

but there are 40 days to recuperate

40 days to reflect

40 days to wait

lovers pray for touch

a span of roses

banned of bloom

I try to remember

if our last words

were "I love you"

or if we just imploded

after one desperate touch

scattered in the universe

someplace God couldn't find us.

How our memories recall our relationships that are equivocal to events of that time and of course the same applies with music. A rich piece of writing.

thank you, much, andrew,

Mardi Gras is great fun, but then come those 40 days of Lent. It sounds here like some kind of rupture occurred in a relationship and now a sort of fast is taking place. Perhaps that "one desperate touch" will end up torpedoing Easter.

I can recall heat of this magnitude with implosion a touch away but those days were wasted on the young who couldn’t appreciate their beauty or value.

yes, wasted....
thank you, Winston,

So so amazing...I love your mixture of metaphors here......from the religious...to Mardi Gras...
both are very reminiscent of the deep South, which is where I was born and raised.

I even love how it fades into a nihilistic/almost atheist perspective.

Overall, this is in my opinion, is one of the best pieces of poetry that you have ever written.
I kind of wish I could give this a higher rating than 100, but that is all that I can do.

I really appreciate your kind review, Light.

Many good questions in this and another thought it brings...what would a relationship be like if you knew when it would end. I mean, the I love yous all come out but there is also a calendar... 4 months, 2 weeks and 3 days from now this relationship will be over. I wonder how we would handle the time we have. Hmmm...thanks for sharing
