surgery

surgery

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

surgery

coughing up the blood of poets

stretched lines in the back of the throat

spurts of syllabic liquid

from the pen

clot on the sterile page

where words cut

incisions

in the memory

so that poetry

may live a long healthy life

And of course poetry will have a long and healthy life won’t it J? Surgery much like poetry. You cut the bad bits out.

I wish I could cut the bad bits out...thank you, Chris,

Wow! Now that is an analogy that had never occurred to me but I love it. Well done, very graphic and vivid.

thank you for your kind words, Soren,

There is certainly some medicinal healing that comes with writing and reading poetry. It can be a cure for many things but, as your poem states (I think) what will cure poetry when it is hurting and ill? I believe that a poem is not a healthy poem until it is read. Therefore, I deem this...a very healthy poem.

I guess we can say that poetry is medicine 💊 for the soul.
I hope your treatments are not expensive Dr. Jacob, the poet.
Just kidding 😂 in the last part.

Hehehe! You are welcome sir.
"so that poetry

Wonderful lines above, Jacob! Indeed, all poets want the art of poetry to remain alive in all generations, for it is something anyone can use to express their feelings! Thanks for sharing, Jacob!
