a far off anchor

a far off anchor

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a far off anchor

when the friction fraction of love speaks

hearts break slowly

vaguely

until there is one voice

in two places

separation scandal eludes companionship

lighting a cigarette

in a dark room

alone with thoughts of what was

congregate

seeking solace in the smoke rings

that break apart like the hearts

nothing is clear

nothing is the looming feeling

everything capsized

gaining water from a tidal wave of tears

we crawl to sanctuary

of remembrance

but once we get there

the smiles we once breathed

gasp for air

and loneliness pushes our emotions under

resuscitation is a life preserver that won't float

and we are left to surface

on our own

no hand to hold

no loving words to guide

and once we grasp survival

the lust for the breath of love

is all but drowned

in its own swirls

of insecurity.

We all need an anchor when times are challenging. No anchor, we can be all at sea. Floating is preferable to drowning. This poem could be about politics or relationships. Both can become deadly. Survival is essential. We have to move forward.

Wow to the picture perfect painting of emotional state stained by harsh challenges. Well done professor Jacob. Footed deeply in to real world as if legs struck in thick mud hole pulling deep in to so that it can hurt or kill
