Snow?

Snow?

A Poem by Alice

Snow.

Snow in waves.

Snow in sheets.

Snow in one direction,

                               And in the other.

Snow that makes us stay inside all day.

Because its cold outside,

In all that snow.

The power is out again,

Here,

In this house.

The power is out again.

The snow tore down a wire somewhere,

So now we must weather out the storm.

The lights have left us.

The heat’s gone too.

After an hour or so the cold will come,

Enough to keep our refrigerated goods cool.

(should I welcome it?)

I Pray:

(I will wait in my blankets for warmth to come.

I know why light is warmth.

I know that wicks and wax will warm me.

But now I know that this house is no safe haven.

It is walls.

It is roof.

It is insulation.

But through the windows I see,

The cold is not so far away.)

The snow that falls in sheets,

In waves,

In one direction and the other,

The snow that is cold.

The cold that keeps us inside all day,

The cold that is creeping through the windows,

The cold that has me hiding beneath my covers.

If they find me made of ice,

Tell them this is how I died:

The snow came.

It came in sheets and in waves.

It came in one direction and the other.

It came with wind that knocked down a wire somewhere,

Which took our lights away.

The heat got scared and left us all alone.

So the cold came in.

Tell them it’s the cold that did it,

It wasn’t the wind or the snow at all.

The wind was just the driver,

The snow was just the car.

It’s the cold.

That’s the killer.

I should have known all along.

Author's Note

Alice
This is very very new. I have not edited it at all. I invite any and all criticisms, critiques, and suggestions. If you must, I even welcome taring it apart with no help at all. I would just like to know what you think.

Also, I would very much appreciate title suggestions.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,
Alice

I think you might want to make it a little shorter, but I like the overall repetition. It's like someone thinking constantly about how cold it is.
