The Chronicles of Ridicule

The Chronicles of Ridicule

A Chapter by flaneur
"

Trying to persevere in a cold, unrelenting world. Inspired by the movie, which is a metaphor of my reality.

"

I am Atlas.

Bearing

the

weight of the world

on chiseled shoulders -

proud and elevated

for all to behold.

Alas,

I am Sisyphus.

My world crumbles

in a rockslide.

I heft it again

onto weary shoulders "

but stumble and fall

under endless burdens.

I am Yoga Man.

Curled

into a wooden ball,

the

weight of the world

on my sagging shoulders "

face buried in hands

praying,

(sobbing)

and laughing.

At last,

I am Icarus.

Bursting

from bondage with

renewed effort,

soaring

beyond the

tether of my afflictions.

Wings

bursting aflame!

I

hurtle

toward earth,

denied by the Sun.

Falling...

back into

my familiar darkness,

vision polished clear

as

[compressed]

pain

reappears.

I am Furyan.

The statue I referred to as Yoga Man, which is what it was called when I was younger, is now more commonly known as a Weeping Buddha. I changed the poem's picture to help clarify for readers who have never seen one.

Michael again some mighty fine work. The images worked well presented as you did. The words tumbled me to the very end.
