Natural Love

Natural Love

A Poem by Flow
"

Just a thought for today thinking about family and traditions

"

There came a day

That I woke
And what I thought was right
Turned out to be wrong

It was tradition to
Walk this way
Talk that way
Listen to this
Hate that
Love us
While loathing them

Instilled, taught
As normal behavior
To be divided
With differences
So great that it was
No way we could Unit
As one

She was the exception at first
The one who didn’t fit
Into pre-conceived
Limited thoughts
Handed down
From generations
Of closed mindedness

She had expectations
Of right and wrong
Just and unjust
She demanded respect
And pointed out
That which was hidden
In the dark
For all to see
In the light

She was a leader
Someone who naturally took charge

She was a protector
One who enabled achievement
And never accepted defeat

She was a teacher
Showing that knowledge
Was for anyone
With an ear and a heart to learn

She was romantic
More faithful than angels
More giving than the earth

She was a lover
Of many things
But with me
She loved me
With no regrets

She was strong
Enough to never
Give into others
Who told her
She was wrong
For loving me

She was an
Amazing woman
In many ways
And it confused me
As to why my father
Never approved

Basically because
Her skin lacked hue
And deep tones
Like our skin

He couldn't accept
that his son loved
a woman who wasn't
black

As one, this is true in relationships, people always look at the reasons why it can't work, and it ias especially hard when race is layered on it also. I though the line that I pasted was so true, but almost believed to a degree that it is unspoken. You worded the poem nicely, great read.

This is beautiful Flow. I remember our conversation this morning and the way that you wrote this based on that is wonderful. It flows perfectly and the visual story it tells is wonderful as always.

omgoodness, so beautiful, thinking it is such a romantic poem, (is still is), and almost turns into a tradgedy. but of course, there are people like that who just don't understand. we're all the same. i love it, and i support it. :)

going into favorites.

Very lyrical, I enjoyed your use of language a lot.

The rift between white and black is miserable. I don't understand it. My family is, for the most part, mildly racist themselves but I do not understand why. We are all the same. Hate is wrong. We are supposed to love our fellow man and yet we are condemning people for their skin color, their religions, their preferences. This is very good. That you can see beyond your fathers hate to love someone who is different. Brava.
