Compromised Crucifixes

Compromised Crucifixes

A Poem by Frieda P

How to let go...
has always been the achilles heel
in matters of the heart
as memories seep from a closed chapter
that perfect facade taken down
 by implosions of the mystery
familiarity can destroy,
 make or break the foundations

Dwelling in the comfort
 of sanctimonious dawdle
arrests the senses
when fallacious promises give way,
compromised crosses
 prove malicious and destructive
writing your eternity's entry in blood
has naught to do with love

Eternities entry in blood.
Has naught to do with love

I'm going out on a limb here.....
Jesus shed his blood by grace to give us everlasting life. All sinners are forgiven if they just ask. Our names are already written in heaven. It has all to do with the love of our Heavenly Father.

You know, I'm sitting here, trying to think if there is anyone, anyone at all in my past for whom I might feel this way and do you know what? I can't think of a single solitary soul. I don't know if that makes me the lucky one, because I have no laundry list of names of the ones that got away, or if that makes me truly pathetic because there have been no real everlasting loves in my life...just a series of "You'll do" ;-)

Interesting write, to say the least...

Dear Frieda,

I visualize two crosses - one that should align with the other because of what is expected from a relationship of love - that of a lover, or that of parents, or siblings. We are raised to trust, to have expectations that are perhaps "bred into" us. When these beliefs are shattered, it is then we are faced with the harsh reality of life and all its imperfections and injustices. One who trusts and is then led down the wrong path must deal with the aftermath - perhaps for a lifetime. Some are able to cope with these travesties, while others are not.

Your words, "writing your eternity's entry in blood has naught to do with love" reveals to me that these travesties are not justified. The symbolism of the crucifix bears witness to me of the depth of the violations of the faith and belief we have in the way it is supposed to be. The final entry is not always one done without love - just a way to bear the pain of carrying one's own cross. There are some things we shall never be able to understand!!

With compassion,
Sheila

Dear Frieda P

My oportunity to return the favour, when you have commented on my less serious and more irreverent and jaunty pieces, with my complete disregard to any sense of propriety, including the happiness of love.

Go, James!

1) Style and use of English? Rich, colourful and engaging. You use vocabulary that does not commonly from an easy part of the English Lexicon.

Yet it remains accessible to all. Much that we write (I write) can be interpreted on several levels, the most complex only we as writers know, to the simple experience and experience of the reader, whoever they may be.

Mark Twain's quote (Mr endlessly quotable for his humorous insight into life) once wrote (I paraphrase) "Classics? - Books people prasie but do not read."

Within that catalogue reside Malcolm Lowry (Under the Vocano) and James Joyce (Ulysses) always in anyone's top literay works of all time. They are unreadable.

The ideal in my view is to mix the literary with the readable.

Then you achieve both objectives.

Few have achieved it.

But in modern times, Daphne du Maurier has been one such in my perosnal opinion and that of others.

To prove the point, she is long dead, but all her books are still in print and at least 'Rebecca' and 'The Birds' Hitchcock turned into films; and

2) Content: I can be brief. I relate to it. How to let go of a relationship, which once gave so much joy, which we still remember, when it is on the rocks to the point of over. Been there. Perhaps we all have been. If we have as readers, we relate. If we haven't we are eduacted.

I rarely do brief reviews.

Why?

What I read often makes an impact. That inteneded. But often not. Yours has. It makes me reflect.

And if that is so, in your case, it has just done so to full effect.

With my respect and all my kindness as ever

thanks for your thoughts EM.
There are some who have no loyalty or sense of commitment... I do think this world of fast paced technology leaves many with no focus.
Very well done poem. A masterpiece of emotion.

I think this happens to a lot of people Pax, thanks for your kindness.
There are people who sweep us away from life itself with false promises and a lot of deception. Their names will be written in blood in the book of love, but for all the wrong reasons.

I am awed at the accuracy and direct way in which you hit on the truth with the exact words. Compliments Frieda!
