Jose, Jack & Johnny

Jose, Jack & Johnny

A Poem by Frieda P
"

A love/hate relationship

"
no one compares to you
look for your charm everywhere
i imagine dipping in your heat
sipping your nectar, i am insatiable
you spy me through crystal eyes
hauntingly coaxing me
your elixir is irresistible
you go down so sinfully good
making me feel comfortably numb
can't get enough of your sweet tonic
you're like a truth serum in my head
nights are dark,  days process slowly
at the dawn you pound in my head
i try to avoid you, ignore you
hoping against hope you'll stay away
i'm drawn to you again & again
you sway me like a w***e on crack
i inhale the trouble in my mind
exhale the easiness of blurred time
your cheap essence easier to comprehend
there are moments I can resist you,
the next i want to swim in your endless seas
sweep me away and make it for eternity
where addictions cease to be
           the only compelling conviction

Cuervo, Daniels and Walker would have sounded like some cockamamie law firm, so you did well to personalize the names. i have always had a love/hate relationship with all of them. sure, i love em while i'm partying and feeling good, but later, when all the hoopla has died down and it's time to pray to the porcelain god, calling "ralph, isaac and huey" then all the love goes away. love the way you handled this information and made me laugh and wince at the same time...great write, posy!

I've never been too fond of Jose and Jack and I haven't spoken since I was 16 years old, but Johnny...oh Johnny...come to mama ;-)

I absolutely love the description, a love/hate relationship, because that is it exactly. Spot on, and amazing imagery.

Separately they are each enjoyable, but altogether, a three horseman (have you ever had the misfortune to have it?) bleck!!! I've always favored Jose though.

Frieda, this piece is deliriously intoxicating. Poor Jose, i abandoned him years ago. This might be a good time to rekindle our affair. :)

How odd, I cheated on Johnny with Jose, he can really get under your skin, what a convoluted mess! .. read more
Reminds me of George Thoroughgood's. I drink alone. I almost read this last night when I was searching. The cravings, the want and the desire for that taste, just once more, hit me one more time, it goes down so smooth and reminds us why we are friends...most of the time. Very cool Frieda.

Trying to avoid, to ignore... Never quite works, does it? A familiar quandary, poetically expressed. Great stuff here, Frieda!

Hardly never Rita, thanks, much appreciated!
We wax and wane for what we crave, it is the way of such things. We ride these tides keeping our heads above water because on some level we are always aware that we might drown. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the sentiments and of your words.

Thanks so much for your lovely review blue.
a good review from simplemind of a good poem. I have the feeling too you are ambivalent, but this is a classicial poetic dilema that you get exactly right here..

--sounds like a heart having second thoughts...! Yet, giving in at the end. Clearly written.. so great Frie! I know few of us feel like this sometimes. And you perfectly described them in your words!
