~The Last Time I Danced

~The Last Time I Danced

A Poem by Frieda P

Last time I saw your face I danced in your essence
the tempo deliberate and hauntingly alluring
you provided the rhythm for my wanton heart
your Grandioso sent me over the moon,
            then crashing back to earth
I felt it'd be our last tango,
          yet, you expressed devotion
I fell into your staccato without missing a beat
till I realized you'd always be a cappella
with no reason or rhyme for your deceptive cadence
there'd be no encore, you were falsetto in disguise
Now, I dance alone on a dark moon with no harmony
no Maestro to entice an impromptu interlude
sad violin music the only melody that tunes my soul
still, a free spin above the kick of devils symphony

Ha I love the way you put that Gabe, thanks so much.
mmm the way a body enraptures the music itself when in dance is very familiar to me and you've described it so well. although bittersweet with a lonely ending, dancing along can be the most beautiful just like the silence between the phrases of a musical piece. lovely!

I bet you are Baby, thanks...
This poem makes me think of my first marriage. Boy, was that one a mistake!! He didn't need a wife, he needed a sparring partner! It's been many years since I left him...but he still haunts me.
Well written, Luv!

Wow, what a great review Marc, thanks so much! :-)
Oh, the musical terms were exceptionally used in this poem, Frieda. Your words danced on the page. The metaphor of a duplicitous individual as falsetto is great. An elegant write! Lydi**

Thanks so much Lydi, muchly appreciate your kind words!
Even in the most exquisite of moments we can fall victim to duplicity. It dances hypnotically so we don't notice. I love that last stanza:

Now, I dance alone on a dark moon with no harmony
no Maestro to entice an impromptu interlude
sad violin music the only melody that tunes my soul
still, a free spin above the kick of devils symphony

Alone on the dark side of the moon speaks more volumes that any of us can hear.

Thanks blue, glad you felt this one...
This is the first time you've danced in a while Mrs.R, but you haven't lost a step...dancing comes naturally to you, you write of it in a way that lifts the reader off the floor and gives wings to their feet, and their imagination...your images are majestic as always, and even though it may feel like it to you, you never dance alone...

"you were falsetto in disguise" - Such a lovely line.

Very nicely done Frieda, I enjoyed the interplay of musical forms here and the play on words such as the line I quoted. Thank you.
