~I never did learn to fly

~I never did learn to fly

A Poem by Frieda P

...and I never did learn to fly
   always trying to take flight
came close a time or two,
could never quite get off the ground
wings were clipped as a fledgling
       stories written on caged walls
echoed, yet there were no lyrics to sing
without a voice on a prayer
plummeted to  abysm's bottomless pit
till I could feel no more
there in the dark stillness lie the secret
rhythm and music filled the air
Found the poetry within my soul
realized the wings were in my heart
all along, I was meant to dance

Never quite learned to fly, but you know how to dance... Beautifully portrayed piece. This one speaks to the beauty of human nature, in my opinon. We so often try (bang our heads against the wall) to be something that we are not, when the truth of our souls is hidden within all the time, waiting to be unlocked. Really enjoyed this one...

I think we are all born knowing how to fly, just like babies can swim without being taught. It's just some of us learn to soar higher than others, and some prefer to be more grounded. You can dance in the night you can fly into the sun, but your wings Frieda are made of poetry adored by everyone.

I enjoyed your poetic lament.
You always seem to inspire my mind to write poetic responses as well...
I see you may never have learned to fly. The ground can be a dangerous place and lonely as well. Still, little bird, I will sing to you a song of wind and stars and you will hear the joy of it in my singing. Then you will cry anew when you feel the altitude screaming terror's echo of the crushing of my bones... I flew. High. Too high, too long, and too far. How content I am to hop along the grassy meadow with you today. How blessed to see your dancing feet and your face looking with longing to the skies I will forever dread to know...

Sorry, but it is your fault for inspiring my little mind... Ha.
I do so love the emotion you pour into your work. It is palpable and it brings me out of my shell a bit.

The gift of poetry soothes the shattered soul and somehow from the words that poor forth from our hearts we really do learn how to fly. Just beautiful Frieda.

Grazie mille Julie, you're too kind :-)
Pursuing the wrong talent, only to find the talent lies elsewhere; well done, I liked this one. The imagery was quite flawless as well.
