She...makes no excuses

She...makes no excuses

A Poem by Frieda P

She is soft and tender,
but not in a posh pink kind of way,
 more like gooey marshmallows dripping
in dark chocolate sauce and cherry wine
She's tough and resilient,
             yet unlike brittle nails,
more like a vibrant lioness, protecting her cubs....
She doesn't need a knife to cut your heart out,
one look, and you've turned to stone
She's playful in a big kitten with claws kind of way
          ...serious like Wuthering Heights
She garners her strength from within,
drawn to the moon's horizons, like rivers that flow to the sea
She is a woman standing strong within her glory and malfeasance,
and she makes no excuses for her imperfections...

Because her imperfections are hers and she embraces them....no one can take that away from her! What a glorious character study you have written here, Frieda. You speak of a strong willed woman with a heart as big as New Jersey! :) I enjoyed it very much. Lydi**

Thanks Blogger, yes it's a pretty accurately descriptive song too...jazz'd you enjoyed.
I love the way you portrayed her, warts and all. I also love the song and clip. for me your poetry is also like gooey marshmallows dripping in dark chocolate sauce and cherry wine.

Wooo par excellence review, thanks Woody! :)
Frieda, you are the total package! Not only an excellent writer whose poetic expression of the inner strength and all the other myriad qualities so beloved in a woman is beyond compare, but a magical music and video producer as well... and yes I did listen to the music and watched the video first this time. I love all the beautiful black and white images...just perfect. And Billy Joel was my first album purchase as a newly minted teenager with yard mowing money in my pocket so of course a favorite. You are a multimedia genius? (What software or website do you use?) Anyway, this is such a lovely poem... full of soft and hard truths. Super job, dear! Super job!

We are who we are Frieda....that's for sure. Why not embrace who we are and stand by what we believe.

I liked this one it really sits well with me.

He does know Frieda, hope you keeping on well.
It looks very autobiographical to me. Admirable and also respect worthy. These words can be engraved on any woman's tomb stone who has lived like herself.

You just brought a smile to this cranky morning face Avinash :) I like that engraving idea....
Wooo women power! Women are both soft and fierce. I love the Wuthering Heights comment in your poem haha!
I love the last line as well;
"and she makes no excuses for her imperfections"
I personally think imperfections are the most beautiful aspects of people :)
Great ink, as always
