One, Two, Ninety-Nine, One Hundred

One, Two, Ninety-Nine, One Hundred

A Poem by gabiaimee
"

The numbers don't matter.

"
Two is twice as big as one.
One hundred is one percent more than ninety-nine.
Still, the effect of two is no greater than that of ninety-nine.
They are both only one more than the previous number.

One more day, one more fear, one more scar on my body;
it doesn't matter whether it is my first or my last.
The first will hurt the same as the ninety-ninth.
Every day, every feeling, every mark matters
even if I have survived one hundred before.

I've felt the sting of a 100 slashes upon my arms, and the only truth I've faced, is that the first and last are all that matter, the first hurts the most, all those inbetween, the numb emotionless traces upon the flesh. The last embelishes them as a reminder, if you ever mattered at all.

I like the logic and wisdom shared in the poem. I liked how you used math to make your point. A strong ending to a excellent poetry.
