the pavement snaked southward out of Ortonville once upon a time but the tar always had a hankering for black bean burritos and along the way, barbecue sauce was added to the recipe
the artery cuts through two seats of government, the biggest fourth letter and the city of gold
always open

from the longest beach to the line known as forty-nine
through the heart of sin and the corner with the great hole
now an interstate from the City of Angels and through the big beehive
no longer whole, the phantom from Idaho Falls north to Brigham City on the south
less than two hundred miles of tar, the death of Main Street
two-sided sword of progress
lucky and unlucky

there is not one child growing off the main tar impotent blacktop that is four hundred miles long up the crimson backbone to volunteer center the spurless wonder the naysayers may say no spur from Demopolis to Birmingham no spur from Tuscaloosa to Decatur yet their is much original history druid city does not have the deacon blues vineyards and olive trees overlook chalk bluffs recording artists selected the south side a president and a frontiersman called home spur or no spur, Americana lives on yet the interstates lurk in the dark corners © 2013 Kenneth The PoetReviews
