Road Tryppin'

Road Tryppin'

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

I.

the pavement snaked southward

out of Ortonville once upon a time

but the tar always had a

hankering for black bean burritos

and along the way, barbecue sauce

was added to the recipe

the artery cuts through

two seats of government,

the biggest fourth letter

and the city of gold

always open

II.

from the longest beach

to the line known as forty-nine

through the heart of sin

and the corner with the great hole

now an interstate

from the City of Angels and

through the big beehive

no longer whole, the phantom from

Idaho Falls north

to Brigham City on the south

less than two hundred

miles of tar, the death of Main Street

two-sided sword of progress

lucky and unlucky

III.

there is not one child growing off the main tar

impotent blacktop that is four hundred miles long

up the crimson backbone to volunteer center

the spurless wonder the naysayers may say

no spur from Demopolis to Birmingham

no spur from Tuscaloosa to Decatur

yet their is much original history

druid city does not have the deacon blues

vineyards and olive trees overlook chalk bluffs

recording artists selected the south side

a president and a frontiersman called home

spur or no spur, Americana lives on

yet the interstates lurk in the dark corners

a fascinating piece.

Life Journey is full of dark corners, it's up to us how to choose what's right from wrong.
