Route Toward Hell

Route Toward Hell

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

On the ground, there lies a penny
Wrap them up, I have too many
A crooked snake, a couple lines
Embezzle it and you pay the fines

Ever wonder what this means
Green and greed, not all it seems
We can have enough to live well
Too much is the route toward hell

Lying on an exponential curve
The elites are there to be served
Up at the top lies all that wealth
Down low is poverty and poor health

Ever wonder what this means
Green and greed, not all it seems
We can have enough to live well
Too much is the route toward hell

In this place called the global village
What gives them the right to pillage?
To take from those who must be fed
They think those folks are better off dead

Ever wonder what this means
Green and greed, not all it seems
We can have enough to live well
Too much is the route toward hell

I’ll get off my very high horse
I’ll fight for the have-nots, of course
Think worldwide as you act locally
Little by little, it will be better totally

Ever wonder what this means
Green and greed, not all it seems
We can have enough to live well
Too much is the route toward hell

For me, the repeated text serves to strengthen the message. And the juxtaposition serves to show how far along we are on that route we are traveling. Well done!

Roarke said it all. So deep, so meaningful, and cleverly crafted.

amen brother.

thankfully, I'm probably the richest I'll ever be,
and if "too much" leads to Hell,
then I be Heavenbound!

good stuff!

Pleasantly twisted. A rhyme for the times.

Twain said I'll go to Heaven for the climate. But I'll take Hell for the company LOL

Well we are told by the almighty wizards of Wall Street that we will find happiness at the end of the rainbow Doesn't seem to be true though does it?

Your post near says it all - sometimes with a little pause or hop, but, the meaning's exact, the caring's obvious. High horses provide viewing points where opinions are formed in good air and near silence, don't you think?!

For me this stanza has most weight,' Lying on an exponential curve ~ The elites are there to be served ~ Up at the top lies all that wealth ~ Down low is poverty and poor health '. The chorussed words are anthem like, could easily stand alone.

for me, repetition is also included in the route toward hell. But that's just one of my myriad twists. Here we have a piece juxtaposing a reality, against a "known' the refrain. I see it also about inner mantras ignored and yet put to the test daily. And the loop repeats.
With this short piece you've encompassed generations of altruistic struggle- certainly the road toward hell itself.
At least when salmon swim upstream, it's for a purpose, species preservation.... green and greed have no preservation purposes.
Huge write, surprising weight when you thing about it. Good work.

"Ever wonder what this means

The above words said it all. When you create a race who want more and more. One day the walls and floors will cave in. It did in the USA. I like the logic and the way you made the points in this poem. Thank you for the excellent
poem.

This is some deep stuff man. I love it. To criticize, I'll say the line "I'll get off my very high horse" seems a bit...forced i guess, "very high horse" like you are trying to make the line long enough. Or at least thats the impression it gave me. Why not (if you heed my advice) add an adverb somewhere in the beginning of that sentence or so? your choice. I have to find such a minor thing to talk about because the piece is a pretty solid one so yeah, the only thing i could find haha. Good write!
