Lonely

Lonely

A Poem by Lydia Waldock
"

I was a lonely child and it still carries with me

"
This loneliness has become my only friend
Reliable it’s always at my side tugging at my sleeve
Had it not met me when I was young I don’t think I’d be as vivid to other people’s reality.
I’ve always felt the coldness surround my hands as I turned pages of the books loosing myself in the words wishing to be apart of their world full of laughter, friends and memories to be brightly fond of.
I am not so young anymore
Grew up alone in all the tribulations of my life never been able to have a friend stay with me.
But I’ll always have loneliness
My marriage to it can not be broken even when I’m in love.
People, memories, lovers, emotions are fleeting they come and go when your world is a glass bottom bottle.
I’ll hold my own head high and pretend I’m loved and surrounded by those who care.
The loneliest always win to be the biggest losers

Loved the wordplay Lydia and the emotional power in the write, but if you don’t mind my suggestion, to give even more strength to the structure, here is my stanza proposal:

This loneliness has become
My only friend
Reliable as always at my side
Tugging at my sleeve

Had it not met me
When I was young
I don’t think I’d be as vivid
To other people’s reality

I’ve always felt the coldness
Surround my hands
As I turned pages of the books
Losing myself in the words

Wishing to be a part of their world
Full of laughter
Friends and memories
To be brightly fond of

I am not so young anymore
Grew up alone
In all the tribulations of my life
Never been able to have a friend stay with me

But I’ll always have loneliness
My marriage to it
Cannot be broken
Even when I’m in love

People, memories, lovers, emotions
Are fleeting as they come and go
When your world
Is a glass bottom bottle

I’ll hold my own head high
And pretend I’m loved
And surrounded
By those who care

The loneliest
Always win
To be
The biggest losers

Hope this is OK ... :-)

Gosh, Lydia!
"This loneliness has become my only friend."
Since a chid, I have been shoved aside, starved for and deprived of love, affection, and mutual companionship; so, I can easily grasp the emotion and powerful metaphors that pour so sadly and forlornly from your pen.
The timbre of your poetic voice speaks beautifully; though, its poignancy compels the heart to break to think a 17-year-old girl experiences such heaviness in her life and soul.
The one thing I've learned from writing about my own trials and tribulations is that it's a great way to deal with them and get them off your chest; and, one can learn so very much about themselves when they read the deeper meanings contained in their own words, that often bring about wanted and needed solutions. I hope you find this is true for You, as-well.
Free Verse is a powerful form of poetry to express anything in; especially, our deepest feelings and emotions, and you've done a stellar job of doing just that, as well as striking a chord in your readers' minds, hearts, and souls.
I, too, struggle with dyslexia, but there is not one hint of dyslexia among your smoothly flowing words … way to go! : )

Excellent writing, Lydia … captivating and impacting, and this takes understanding of one's self and how to convey it to others.
Thank you for sharing You!

It's edgy, yes, but it's spot on to me. I grew up a pretty lonely child myself. I felt your line "But I'll always have loneliness". To fall back on if need be.

Definitely! its always here. Thanks for your comment
I definitely can relate to this. I find loneliness to be kind of complex because I think there are so many layers to it but you managed to describe it very well. Great work!
