Impacted

Impacted

Impacted
Internal life crashing against the
landscape
the booming skull of
sea
a salt taste
drip
throwing fleckwaves of
thought
into cracked weathered stone
the grimace of
statues
A gnarled sage like
sigh
the tree cage of ribs, bent
willow
as birds flee in majesty/symphony/
sympathy
a swarming fusion extending through
feather and bone
the jagged broken rocks; a simile
for dreams
analogy of shipwrecks
smashed bodies on the
 shore
with fistfuls of sand
I drag myself - primordial
through the mud of
Evolution
coughing and hacking up the
choking bone
of
life

Goodness you make life sound such a weary, harsh path to travel, and for some it is. We live in an unequal world and some are more than thankful for the basics while others moan about the luxuries. You took me right back before our species inhabited this planet. I liked what I saw, we have abused this lovely place and that is shameful. Your poem makes the mind wander further, much further.

Well fella you give this THE treatment as we are dragged line by line down into the protagonists demise using such evocative phraseology. Have to admit when I read the title I thought 'impacted' meant 'full of s**t' lol!

If you don't feel like being active at the cafe right now, please feel no obligation to respond. I just want you to know that I love how your poem reminds me of how it feels to be at the end of my own personal fire danger (even tho millions are still in the thick of it). All the birds & wildlife are quiet in the aftermath, the land still smoking & smoldering. The quietness is both eerie & refreshing. That's how your poem feels, both dreadful & yet a peaceful release of too much s**t weighing the narrator down (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
