Never Change

Never Change

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

They’re all losing faith in you

They’ve declared you a lost cause

Because you’re stuck in your ways

And you refuse to change

You tried doing what they said

They dress you up like a doll

And tell you to act like someone you’re not

Because it’s all about appearances

They tell you to put on a good show

Because they want to please the audience

And keep your opinions to yourself

Because they don’t want to hear them

You’re supposed to look pretty and dumb

That’s what they want to see

You know you’re living in a fantasy

But it’s not one of your own

They say you can have it either way

You can be successful but only if you give in

You must adopt a new identity

And plaster a big fake smile on your face

You’re sick of them telling you what to do

You can’t remember the sound of your own voice

And so you take off your mask

You step into the spotlight and take a risk

When the show is over the crowd cheers

They throw roses up onto the stage

And you receive a standing ovation

And all the critics praise your performance

They said you’d never make it in this town

But you just proved all of the skeptics wrong

You know this is where you belong

Just promise me you'll never change

Very nice poem... I like the message that it gives, always be who you are and don't let others tell you who you are to be. Well done
