Snowflakes

Snowflakes

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise

Snowflakes

I sit and watch as the snowflakes hit my windshield
For a moment they stick
I see their lovely intricate shapes
In a short while they melt
Then each rolls down as water

I think of them being created high up in the clouds
Each one starts from a spec of dirt
In the cold surrounded by others
Thin vapor encloses that spec
They grow too heavy and fall to earth

Now both the dirt and the water has returned
Back to its lowest state
Once again to join the rest
I am not saddened by this
For I know the cycle has no end

I can see the snowflakes and feel I've entered your heart as you contemplate them and realize the cycle of life contained in everything we witness, snowflake or other experiences. Beautifully written and clear contemplation that lets me see through your eyes and feel the affirmation of the cycle as it always has been here on earth.

This is one of the best nature-poems I have ever read. You have described everything so impeccably and wittily that one can go on and on reading this piece again and again. Great imagery. Keep writing.

Snowflakes are beautiful and intricate. This poem reminded me of playing in snow and making paper flakes as a child. Nice write, Cerveise!

To me though, that's the saddest part. The speck of dirt works so hard to become a snowflake only to be let down over and over again. It never gets a chance to be special because the very thing that makes it unique is the thing that forces it to once again become one with the masses. The imagery was perfect though, since I live in California, I don't get to see many snowflakes but I could envision the flake falling and melting in this piece. Once again, a great read from a great poet!
