A Reason

A Reason

A Poem by zaneybear

Do i need a reason?

To end it all,

Right here, right now?

I dont think I do.

It's my choice,

the one thing I actually have a say in.

My life.

I don't need a reason,

to end being me,

it's my life.

Its not like i chose,

to be put here,

I can take myself out.

With one flinger flick,

or the

untwisting of a single cap.

It'll all be over-my life,

do you think

I need a reason??

Awl, sweetie, I wanted to see what your title meant. I was not expecting the subject of suicide. It is close to my heart because two of my loved ones chose to die this way. From experience, I can say that it greatly affects the people we leave behind. However, I do understand how people can want to end their own life. A couple of years ago I had a choice to make. I was involved in a car accident and nearly a year later my body was still in unbearable pain. Therefore, one spring day I decided to stay in the car and slowly become a lobster in a slow boil. As the heat built up in the car, I became tired and lethargic. Meanwhile, I was crying God do you not even love me enough to send someone to stop me. His answer to me was, “Today I set before you, life and death, choose life so that you may life. “ A few minutes later, I climbed out of the car and later that day got my nails done, because that is what you do when you live. Since that day, I have not struggled with suicide probably because I did battle with it and won. Hope returned and life improved. Sure life can be hard, but try to focus on the little things you do enjoy about being alive and know that people do care even when we do not feel like they do.

It is an interesting question. And I agree with Steve that ending your life affects others. It affects them much more than it affects you. After all, you're dead. It's those left behind that have to live with your death. No I don't believe in God, and death is really your choice. But remember this is a serious choice and usually one can find good reason to live and have an enjoyable life. All you need to do is to look. But it is your choice, but so is living a happy full life.

Best regards,

Rick

thank you for your words of kindness, ait means a lot to me
You are really talented and your writing really got me thinking.

Sometimes one doesn't need a reason. If a person feels like its the only way for their suffering to end they will go forward with it. But at the same time, the one cliche that truly applies is; life goes on. No matter how much it hurts now, this will end. As human beings we have to try to make the best of the hand we've been dealt and its best we don't focus on the hurt, but the little things that make us smile. They take place every day if we try to look for them.

I can relate to the words in this piece. Sometimes it feels like the only thing you have control over is whether you chose to take yourself out of this world or stay in it and face whatever life throws your way.
"the one thing I actually have a say in.
My life."
I love this line because as sad as it is, knowing that the writer feels they do not have control over anything else but their death, it is just so powerful. I can relate to that feeling well. I enjoyed reading this piece and I wish you all the best in life hun, please keep writing, your words evoke a lot of emotion. Well written.

This poem really gets you thinking. I mean, life is the most confusing thing in the entire world. Why are we here? What is our reason for living? Many times I'll feel those thoughts just because I don't know why I'm alive. I don't plan on getting married or having kids so I ask myself 'what is my worth?' But the thing is, we don't know why we are here, we don't know for sure if there is a God watching over us or if we are all alone, so maybe we don't understand our reasons to live, but they are there, just hidden.

So I think when it comes to a topic like suicide, you think of a reason to take your life, if you don't have a reason why do it? There is good in life, and even if it's not there right now it will come. We don't know what will come in the future, and sure there will be many adversities, but we'll fight through them like we always have because that's life. So there are reasons to go, but there are also reasons to stay.

Anyways, that's just what I started thinking about once I read this poem. You did a great job with it, it really got my brain going. Good work.

I like how you put that, thank you:)
No, a person doesn't need a reason...there's always a built-in reason or the thought wouldn't arise. In our lifetime, we go through periods when we are sometimes given a reason per day to want out...But the best decisions in life usually come from learning who we really are, and why we should go on, even learning why we are too special to deserve having to decide to make the decision to "chuck it all" and leave this world. Until we learn that we are different and much better than anyone that ever gave up on themselves, such decisions are nothing more than common, foolish and immature. No decision to quit something you can be special at is ever a good one. Outlasting the hells of today for the heavens of tomorrow is the trick. The reasons to stay, remain and endure through your own personal hell are the harder ones to make. Ever notice, the right things to do are the hardest to do? They take more time and effort. Hence the saying "only the strong survive" is born.
Time is a gift sometimes used as a weapon against us. Hold out. Nothing lasts forever.

It was YOUR words that inspired...you're very welcome
Perhaps I'm not normal... perhaps i'm unique in my philosophies on life, as I can't relate to the taking of one's own life. Even though, I've known the depths of depression, the pain of being bullied and a host of far worse negative oppressions, suicide was not a reality, could never be.
For when someone gets to that point, it means they are willing to let the bullies, and the negative influences in their life, win.... If they win... the cycle continues and more people keep finding themselves in the throws of despair and feel like suicide is the only option. It's only when people face those negative forces and make the choice to make sure that negativity loses... it's only then that the cycle of pain and hurt will begin to see healing for everyone. For when a bully is painted and brought to light... they can no longer bully.
I guess... I was always to stubborn to let any negative force win against me. I can do more good if I'm alive.

Just my opinion. Thanks for sharing your ink. =)

=) You're welcome Z-bear.
Yes, I do. There are others who care about you and will be hurt. But mostly, you were created for a reason by a perfect creator who wants you to succeed. He certainly doesn't want one of his magnificent creations to simply give up now.

Believe me, you will see a purpose eventually. One thing I did when I felt like giving up was to end some worthless friendships. Friends who were using me and only hurting me and making me feel worthless.

Think about it. You have a lot to lose and nothing to gain my making this one bad choice right now.

It's pretty final, and affects others more than you,
but you are right, it is your choice.
