Waxen Heart

Waxen Heart

A Poem by icelandicblue

Her eyes are blue pools
of unfocused ice.
They have seen too much darkness
and felt too much pain.

Wavy hair the color of wheat
hangs in an unkempt field; she is a mess
of contradictions and a muddle
of mistakes.

Small hands, twist errant
straw-like strands in perpetual motion.
Her light-starved mind silently screams
in primal hues.

All color has been bled
from a life that is taking much too long.
There is no melody around her,
only static fills the air.

Alone she waits for the storms
to pass and the sun to break.
She dreams of warmth to melt
the wax that encases her heart.

How she longs to lick the tallow from her
fingers and feel the beat of something more.
So she waits to find the rhythm of the dance
she once knew before the rain.

This takes me back to a very dark time in my life

she is a mess
of contradictions and a muddle
of mistakes.

Alone she waits for the storms
to pass and the sun to break.
She dreams of warmth to melt
the wax that encases her heart.

But it also lets me see just how far I have come...I have found the rhythm of the dance.

Thank you for sharing this very thought provoking piece.

"Every storm runs out of rain just like every night turns into day."

Enduring those bad moments helps up appreciate the good moments.

No problem and you are welcome.
"so she waits to find the rhythm of the dance she once knew before the rain"....... love this last line because it adds a ray of hope to this very sorrow-filled poem. very nicely written... :)

Thank you for commenting.
this made me feel so cold....especially the first two lines...i got a chill reading them...

"she''s cold as ice" as the song goes...but she has reason to be....

there was a dance and a rhythm before the rain.

it is gone now...she only dreams of warmth.

Your whole poem was wonderful but the above stanza made an impact.... :O)

Hello-

How nice to see you. Thanks so much for your kind comment.
Ohhh, a image builds , then builds, I push it away, but your words, give me little room for breath, snared in a mid morning dream of last night, I push it away, but the river of time, of age, of dust, of rubber rotted side walls, constricts my broken power chairs corner....
Together we grope in the tide pool of darkness, societies lemmings discarded...Agh..but once I flew..

A beautifully penned dream of warmth, feeling like a long past memory, before the rain.

Yes, it is for me too :-)
This might be my favorite of your work. there is so much to like here. from the first stanza that contrasts the brilliant blue of her eyes, which brings warmth to my mind, with the cold of ice. That's excellent. In stanzas 2 and 3 you point us to hair that is at once vibrantly colored and an unkempt mess. Wonderful contrast again. You speak of lost color after using color so wonderfully before that, and then you speak of the music she listens for while hearing only the static. this woman is enduring much. But somehow she still has hope as she waits for the rhythm to return. I REALLY enjoyed this write! (100/100)
