Rain Shadow

Rain Shadow

A Poem by icelandicblue

The earth did not shudder
as I became the shade
in this landscape of
the misconstrued.

When was it that
the afterthought of who
and what became only footsteps
in the dust?

There is no spell to quell
this thirst for definition by a
bold heart trapped in the dusky seams
of a chiaroscuro brush of fate.

I am the rain shadow at the base of it all,
looking up to the clouds and waiting
for them to weep in earnest solely to savor
the baptism of the forgotten one more time.

Oh how could I possibly find the words to respond to such a beautiful review except to say that I am the lucky one here! Thank you so much Bright Ocean Star.

Icelandic, my friend....you have such a beautiful voice. I love to read your poetry and just let it wash over my mind and soak into my soul. We share a common name, the same ancestral heritage, and common interests in beautiful poetry. I am glad that you accepted my friend request. My night would not be as sweet had I not been able to read your words and bathe in their meaning. Great write, Ice!

Amazing poetry...If life with all its vagaries, fate in all its sadness and our forlorn quests had to be described in amazing poetry, this poem would be it...

It was a pleasure to read your thoughts.
Baptism of the forgotten.....this poem captured the light and the shadows in broad strokes of the brush. ( : O )

Thank you Pryde you are too kind.
First let me say, it's so good to see you back at the cafe and writing again Anne, you've been missed...

We can't always be the sun that arises triumphant above everything, when our dampened hearts finds a retreat in a define-less hue we wait for the rains to purge our old cache.

Life is a tough lesson, as we know, I can't imagine you as Chicken Little though, I must admit. :)
There's deep questioning here...of ones purpose or maybe their very existence. All four stanzas are amazing...the second one really struck me though.

I've missed your poetry and the kinship I find easy to establish with your moods and imagery...the title was immediately gripping, and the words that followed are astoundingly intense, even though they are filtered through an understated kind of imagery...actually I think that sense of understatement only serves to accentuate the intensity that much more...we like to pinpoint things...we need exact points of reference to guide us when evolution feels too much like a riddle...I related to this in a lot of ways...I thirst for definition too...and even though the natural human instinct is to seek shelter from rain, sometimes it does one good to step out into the downpour and be enveloped by the storm...great piece my friend...you may have actually inspired a poem with this one but I'll have to get back to you on that ;)

Thank you so much my friend. You see so much in such snippets. We can only hide so long.
sometimes we feel forgotten...we want the clouds to rain some attention on us...we get trapped in our
lives, and long for something to define reason for our existence.
