Hero for a Moment

Hero for a Moment

A Poem by LydiaWrites
"

I've always thought about smashing glass and doing this. So I made up a story about it. TW: Abuse.

"

I was putting away cups after washing them,

And suddenly I took a simple white mug
That was once my mother's and smashed it

Against the counter.

I destroyed something beautiful, something fragile.

I closed the biggest shard around my palm

And tucked it in my pocket.

It stayed there till you riled me up next.

I whipped it out and sputtered, “Fight me”.

It was the first time I felt brave, almost

Like I was in a superhero movie.

But the good guy didn't win- she ended up with

A swollen lip and a black eye.

The narrator's randomness when she smashed the mug was thought-provoking. This is so different from a lot of the poetry that I read, and it was wonderful! Well done!

Oh wow, I really like this! Esp the idea of 'destroying' something so fragile and beautiful. Its a strong poem, I think it outlines more that one meaning... which is such a good thing. Aha you've reminded me on a time when I was six, oh man... i was craaazy.
