Moments Written

A Poem by MCS

The path twists and turns

leading to cancer

which eats away

at his lungs

no longer

able to speak

drawing breath

between words

much to taxing

we take up communicating

through touch

with our eyes

and when it must

be said

using lovely fountain pens

with elegant blue ink

and fine crisp white paper

with time drawing to a close

he writes out lists

in his graceful script

books, albums and objets d'art

carefully packed and labeled

with the recipient’s name

neatly written

the request

that his manuscript be burn

an offence to my eyes and ears

I plead that it be given to me

after some thought

he nods

taking his hand

I wordlessly say thank you

for in the days to come

these pages

will be a comfort

'Moments Written'
MCS,
Prose to give the reality of a true friend in the end. Words of caring, a story. This was an entrance of a reality to me; what would I do in the same situation?
