Cowardice

Cowardice

A Poem by MCS
"

"Cowards die many times before their actual deaths." ~ Julius Caesar

"

Elected privileged senators most

Expert at double talk

Cowards at the core

Fearful their troughs will run dry

Fearful that the flow of money will stop

Fearful to break with degenerate party lines

Cowards and cowardice are now the norm

Lies upon lies have woven a death shroud

That can easily wrap up democracy

Sadly, this seems to be the pattern and growing scourge of politics today , Mary.
Although your poem relates to the USA, I feel that this political disease is becoming global. Politicians blindly support their leaders, not out a sense of loyalty, but ingratiation.
But....change does seem to be brewing on the horizon.

I find politicians to be such an ugly lot in general, altho there are some good ones. Every time I hear that some politician has denounced something corrupt, I bet they'll be singing a different tune by week's end. Ain't capitalism grand? It's all about the money. Your seething disgust shines thru & resonates with mine (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Indeed, democracy is a fragile thing. This last year has shown me just how fragile.

Hello John, thank you for reading.
And yet there are still so many adhering to that idea that the new folks in office are going to bring the country down and reverse all the wonderful things the previous administration accomplished.
I am just baffled...I thought the troughs had already run dry during the last four years.
and the poor creatures from Animal Farm are screaming, "betrayal"---
But cows don't even try to get out of a burning barn...they just burn up with it.
strong piece...and obviously struck a nerve with me, Mary.
