Lady of impending death

Lady of impending death

A Poem by JRB
"

As she waits for me to fail once more

"

Within the corners
Of my soul
There lies a spark
Of pure
And
Brilliant fire

Is it the spark
To light my world
Or
Just my funeral pyre

My light is blue
My light is dim
And
Frightens those
Who see it lit

For the lady
With the black velvet claws
Is the only one
Who needs it

I keep her
At a distance
For she is
The dance
of death

Each time My fire
Fails to catch
She draws
Another breath

My light
Is waning feeble
My spark
Is growing
cold

And I have
Only one more chance
For the fire
To catch hold

For the lady
Standing next to me
I hear
The whisper
Of her breath

She waits
For me
To fail once more
To dance
Her dance
Of death

Such powerful imagery of eluding death, for now, only you know she will return at another hour, in a moment of weakness. This poem has a way of making the reader think of life as well, the spark, the blue flame, burning deep within; it makes one think of the creativity and energy of the living soul. I loved it.

I really liked this. Simple, yet full of vivid imagery. You really get the sense that the author's sand is rushing through the hourglass. Well done.
