What I Hear

What I Hear

A Poem by JRB
"

But my armor must have had a crack that was only seen by you,,

"

Do not be concerned my love
If in my sleep I turn away
It’s not you who clouds my sleep
But dreams of yesterday

For many years I built a shell
I wrapped myself inside
I made it thick I built it well
My mind I had to hide

I dared not breathe a whisper
I dared not voice a word
A hypnotist with all his skill
My thoughts he never heard

But my armor must have had a crack
That was only seen by you
With your knowledge and your love
You started slipping through

Still habit is persistent
And sometimes I still find
That when I sleep and when I dream
The shell will close my mind

But when I dream of yesterday
It’s not you that I hear
So do not be disturbed my love
It’s not you that I fear

This is absolutely lovely. It captures something nearly anyone can relate to; a moment in life where someone slips through our exterior shells and into our hearts, yet we are still always guarded. Your poem paints a descriptive image and the lines flow into each other so well. Wonderful writing!

nice work....the title speaks of inner struggles, but still a tender message to your loved one, to not misconstrue your distancing as being a problem with her, but your own inner battle.... Love the picture.
