The Bright Lights of America

The Bright Lights of America

A Poem by Joshua J. Certain

Ladies and Gentlmen!

Gather together as we celebrate death!

Look at man and the things that he left behind

Torment him, in his passing

Lest we forget

Such a blind statment

It is lest we remember

That is indirectly stated

The monster is dead!

The monster is dead!

Rotting in hell

Pays for his evil deeds

You all scream

I see no monster in a coffin

I see a man who fought for what he belived

And now he is paraded

on your plasma screen TVs

I see a man that you know by bias views

No opininon that belongs to you

Let us listen to what the media has to say

In America that is the patriotic way

One nation indivisible

Becomes one nation

Politically Invisible

Shadow the dark

And shine on the minimum well being

All truth is casualty

Honesty lost all meaning

Fraternal orders

Sealing national borders

Secret societies

And washed up deities

Become messages to messangers unknown

Hand on a bible

Shotgun to the cranium

It is treason if you can not call this land home

I really enjoyed this poem. It was a scary thing to me to see such celebration in a man's killing. At my University, people were yelling "America!!," etc. And at the time I couldnt exactly put my finger on why it bothered me so much. I guess I was shocked by the intense celebration that followed a man's death. I mean, yes, this is a man who hurt a lot of people, but its still death. And a lot of such intense rejoicing in his death borders on fueling Islamaphobia, which is a huge problem.

Anyway what I mean is, incredible poem, you expressed very well some things that have been on my mind lately.

This is puer brilliance as you show your feelings in a way that words cannot describe. As your read it it dragges you further and further in wanting to read more and more. The flow of was great as at teh beggining it was more of a speech and it slowely picked up a rhythm as you read it wich is more noticed when you read it a second time. The political view you put into this is writen very powerfully throughout about how things are hiden from us. I love this piecs as i do many others you have writen well done on a nother good read.

This is amazing how you can show your opinion in such a form it's impossible to take your eyes off every word, I love how it wasn't ryhming as much at the beggining but then the beat kicked in near to the end, great write, I look forward to reading more :D x

What an intense political statement! I do have to agree with you that there are too many meetings going on behind close doors and stuff dealing with secret societies. For my senior thesis, I researched Freemasons and their power in government. It was kinda scary to see how a few select men rule our fate as a country. I can understand your point of view on Osama bin laden, and I respect your opinion...but some people might not be as tolerant...but who cares about those people! I enjoyed this alot!
