My Friend

Once I had a girly friend

Knew we’d be together to the end

The fun we shared we should never dared

But thirteen-year-olds never cared

So long as fun was there.

My girly friend and I soon found

Our beauty - brought the boys around

Their eyes soon glazed, and as they gazed

On beauty - they thought rich and rare

The girly friends – just did not care.

Girly friend - a woman grown

Seeds of love have long been sown.

Forgotten how - with children now

I managed on life’s rocky road

Childhood friend - just shared the load.

A bumpy ride for all concerned

Some cannot handle truth now learned

A fearful thing, -- now - no hearts sing

The deepening darkness soon holds sway

This thing - now takes my friend away.

"Time heals all," the people say

I wish that they’d go -- far way.

Just leave me be- need time for me

Don’t need the pity – just the hand

Of friends - who truly understand!

Oh. God!

……………..I miss

………………………... my floaties!

Cancer comes in all shapes, sizes and forms. It leaves a gaping hole in the place of a loved one that it takes.
I'm sure that everyone who reads this will know someone who has had to battle this monster.

Beautifully written and heartfelt.

What we have in life is so often taken for granted...not that it is out nature to be such a way...it is just that youth shields us from what lies in the shadows beyond our innocence...

The greatest strength you have, is your unyielding, powerful self...your great sense of humor and being able to humble yourself at times knowing what is gone and what will never be....

But we can still BUY FLOATIES IN EVERY SHAPE AND SIZE that we want, now! See, life has a weird way of having a sense of humor!

Beautifully written,
Celia

I feel your loss in this...its a great one. Realization of youth no longer...the loss of a friend...there is so much to mourn here--honest write, and vulnerable.
