Pain

Pain

A Poem by JJ Escobar

For too long you have crippled me
I indulged in you, which caused me so much self destruction
It took my sights off who I was working to be
I see you now, you better beware my new construction

I was blinded by every wound
You slowed me down with so much fear
I would see my state and think I was doomed
Slowly... I've lost myself with every passing year

Yet I keep racing, now that I am battle tested
You beat down the naïve, little boy
So a courageous man rises, the one for whose heart you contested
Your hold on me, my King will destroy

You're finished, even though you're a real and valid feeling
Because you evolved into something that kept me from Divine Healing

Has the sound of one looking back on a toxic relationship. There is more than a little bitterness here, a sense of having been manipulated. There is also the feeling of having been freed from the relationship by Divine intervention. Indeed, human relationships can be trials, even addictions. But from the bad ones we can learn and grow.

Yeah I like your take. I did want to portray a sense of manipulation.

"You slowed me down with so much fear..."

This really resonates with me. Living with pain can indeed imprison you in walls guarded by fear. The fear of getting hurt again can stop you from opening up and trying again. Sometimes it feels so real, so physical. Like something blocking you from taking another step.
This is beautiful, thank you.

Thank you Sonnie! I agree with you the fear does make it difficult to be vulnerable. I'm still worki.. read more
“Blinded by every wound”

Expanded my thinking that a wound only causes pain but also limits our vision about our life.

Loved the “valid feeling/divine healing” wordplay!

Enjoyed it Bro!!!

The writer is “found”. He strayed but, now knows his path. “You slowed me down with so much fear” is writer admiring that help was needed. Faith will lead! “Devine healing”

I feel two things for this poem. Which by the way..I loved! Very well written!!

One of the first things that come to mind is that, the person is dealing with an alcohol or substance abuse. Finally seeing the light and getting straight with themselves and God.

Or they have fallen off the path of the righteous. Got sucked into worldly ways or even something darker. I’ve known a satanist before. They have their own “bible” and it claims love and joy or even equality. Which is false considering what Satan stands for. So the person in your righting may have had an eye opener and is heading back to God.

Either way..major kudos for this well rounded poem!!
