What Compels A Writer

What gives a man the urge

to bring pen to paper?

What addictive need is it to purge

ideas from blank spaces in the mind

to the blank slate and chisel in the words

working tirelessly

from the sweat of the brow to the hands that labor.

What is the itch that that relentlessly hounds

until you feel beaten to the ground

and it feels

the only release

is to take the words

tossing and turning inside of your head

and simply write it down?

I know your poem is about mystery but I love the mystery of your poem within itself and how the words described how writing feels for me. This is definitely something to think about because I am also addicted to writing things down and constantly wanting to fill blank pages. Like you said in your poem, I really don't know what makes me want to- maybe it's because we are constantly trying to uncover the mysteries of the world, and whenever we feel like writing it's because we think we have uncovered another piece and we have to share it with the world. What makes us so curious? I guess we will never know. Thanks for sharing I could really connect

I can completely identify with the tossing and turning and i can add more: churning, and spinning ...

This poem maybe short but it means so much... Lots of poems have different meanings to them and your poem means a whole bunch of things. Keep up the good work I enjoyed reading your work. You have a real thing for writing.

I love this! its mystery, and its deep thought, about why we as writers feel the need to write. Personally It's to get thoughts and feelings out of my head, and for a little release. Very nice :)

Wow. Wonderful. It was thought provoking. What truly does make us writers tick? For me, it's the million words and stories that flow through my head. If I don't get them out, it drives me crazy. I'll have sentences running through my mind all day, that if I don't write them down, I'll just start blurting them outloud. That can be bad in public. Lol.
Thanks for this! Keep Writing!
