Crevasses in the Sidewalk

Crevasses in the Sidewalk

A Poem by Jonathan W

I saw you on the street for the first time in three months.

someone must have been digging a trench

deeper and deeper in my absence,

each shovelful thoughtlessly unpacking

moments I laid so carefully

because my loudest screams couldn’t

reach your ears as you passed.

i'll just call again.

the very fact that the final line is crossed out tells all that needs to be said about separation.
Yeah, i might call again...Then again, maybe not.

You write so beautifully. But I wanted to read more beauty, not less. I wanted you Jonathan
in Portland, to make flesh from that second stanza. So much was happening there. Patience.
Scorn. Deep thought, deliberation,
trench digging ,(which is a poem in itself) absence.

Whatever you do.....Don't you dare stop writing.............dana

I really like this. It's simple, but it's complex.
