"Forever Innocent"

"Forever Innocent"

A Poem by Kameron Armitage

If only she could have been forever innocent...

The slapping of a hand,
On a scared mother's cheek,
Still echoes in a corrupted little girl's ears.

That little girl suffered through harsh realities,
Forfeited her youth without choice,
Witnessed irrational actions,
Saw first hand love abusing itself.

Yet she still stands strong.

She grew up too fast,
Found love too early,
And had a heart too broken.

His ignorance destroyed who she was,
And molded a new mask for her to wear.
She wore it and still works to shed it.

She turns with each blow,
Somehow still finding time to give love.

If only I could have saved her;
Kept her
Forever innocent.
