Evening Song

Evening Song

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

Written in early Summer

"
The big frogs have the corner thicket to the pond.
Spread-shimmering textured surface.

Late afternoon saunters into early evening.
High winds call through Alder's marsh.
Songs of rustling leaves silver grey withal.

Low bowl water shed flagged in grasses sweet.
Tall alder, Maple, Aspen give themselves to wind's cooling lilt.

Bull frogs unison solo repeat.
These ones with their natures' chorus sing unique refrain.
"Adieu sweet warm light", shadows falling- onward velvet night.

In anticipation I await, evening calls my name.
Sweet rosy curtain descends sky ceiling, in pure silken wash.
Dusk to sunset join as one.

Evening season slowly whispers in breezes light;
"Cherish me within your heart's thrum-"
"I am your God-given inheritance."

Evening season slowly whispers in breezes light;
"Cherish me within your heart's thrum-"
"I am your God-given inheritance."

These beautiful lines perhaps encapsulate the entire code to unspoiled spiritual joy and happiness. If only we just carried these God given joys, these blessings in our hearts' thrum always, life would be heaven on earth. Thank you Kathy for sharing the magic unfolding around us...

Ah, you carried me away, for a moment, to a beautiful place, for I love ponds, streams, lakes, and rivers and all the wildlife that stirs there ... Beautifully done!

Kathy, I dropped by again and almost at random picked this one. It seems to confirm my first impression that you are more aware of our natural world than most, and that your knowledge and love of nature create delightful pictures. As I read this, I imagined a video unfolding showing all these sights and sounds that most folk have no idea about. A little tale for you. I volunteer at a wildfowl centre near my home in Gloucestershire, and I car-share with a fellow volunteer who lives nearby. Braving the cold early morning I stood on my drive to await his arrival and had about 5 minutes of birdsong. He is a self confessed avid birdwatcher, so when he arrived I asked him to briefly switch off his engine and listen. He identified about 6 different birds and thought there was another that he couldn't quite pin down. Too often we just rush on. But you truly observe, and then you write in beautiful pictures. Nice job!

To take pleasure in the sounds, smells and colours of nature is one of the joys of living away from the big cities, where they are replaced with cell phones , car fumes and advertising hoardings . Your poem show what we "townies" are missing.

I love this. I'm able to visualize and hear your beautiful description. It made me long for a lonely do nothing kind of day the kind where plans don't exist and guilty pleasures are accepted. I love the details, I too bask in them. Lovely, just lovely piece!!
