Cascading Winds

Cascading Winds

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

Winds of change blowing through our lives

Cascading Winds

Cascading winds bring gusts of rustling leaf confetti.

Within each flying leaf tear drop, history falls all around

They glide in a final song of color’s grace.

Like a veil descending adorns the air.

I remember each spent leaf once budding.

The ground is now a rainbow mosaic’s checkerboard.

Oh, fall day you are putting on a show!

Sun illumined; it is a living portrait through every swirling leaf whirligig.

At my shoulder, scolding brown squirrel skitters away.

Swooping stellar jay arrives but to leave.

Lengthening light and shadow streams quickly by.

Precious is each day passing.

Leaves fly before these eyes. Hard breezes blow through my hair.

God holds me close through impermanent days.

Heaven is forever.

How do we feel about what we cannot control. Seasons come and go and we must adjust with each minute of this life so precious.

Funny how the animals get into survival mode.
We tend to hope the season doesn't end too quickly. A little bit of self-denial in the air.
But the dark nights are coming in quick.
For some reason, I always think of people passed at this time. Maybe that's how it should be.
But life is for living, and live we must. Hope things are going well for you, Kathy.

True that we cannot really control our lives, though on the surface it may seem like it; but we make only little decisions that rarely change the bigger picture.

Bu we can enjoy each moment, each change, in the same way we can enjoy the rich colours of autumn, (the loveliest of seasons to me,) the crispness of a fresh new blanket of snow, or that first little bud of spring peeping out from the bare brown clay. Then of course there is summer, a time when troubles seem to fall away as the sun shines and the days become long and lazy.

I love every season, embrace how nature shapes and changes our world, in the same way as the winds of change shape us and make us what we are. If I'm starting to ramble, forgive me, but this is a lovely, lovely poem, that perfectly captures the essence of both nature and our species.

Beccy.

I love changing seasons, especially autumn, & this is one of the best poems I've ever read that describes the sensations of this time of year. Your word choices are superb (swirling leaf whirligig!) I love the way your observations are spilled out in a somewhat messy way, just like the swirling wind keeps everything brisk & fresh & unexpected. As always, I love the way you present God in the way you see your world (((HUGS))) fondly, Margie

I am sooo wishing it was fall in phoenix, but we will have another month or more of hot weather. But then...like magic it will be autumn for 7 glorious months before it turns to summer again. love the feel of this and the comment at the bottom that relates to us being just one of those budding and dying leaves, blowing in the wind. Great piece!!!

Winds of change indeed, Kathy. That wind sure does cascade through our lives, passing in and out just like the seasons themselves.....

As we all know change is a frightening thing. Like this wind you wrote of, it comes in like a ferocious hurricane and lays waste to all the foundations we have laid in our life. It is a scary and often overwhelming occurence. However, like all things in life, after change comes regeneration. Rebirth. And the devastated does always bloom again with the marching onwards of time. Change is not always so bad. We just have to harness its energy and power to the betterment of our lives.

This is a lovingly written poem. Infused with some wonderful imagery and description. Like most of your poems this fills the mind with soothing mental pictures and the heart with the warmth in which you embrace life and all in it.

Very well written, Kathy.

Fall is in the air. The poet is feeling the season of change. The poet is embracing the change. The poem is alive in beauty and anticipation. With every event, i feel exuberance and joy. The only constant is change and by God's permits they happen through His natural law and Will. Enjoy the moments they bring. God bless.

Glad you liked it and thanks for reading. Not to cold but guess that will soon change.
This is my favourite time of year, although our leaves are still green and will not start changing for a couple of weeks yet, when the maples flame and the sumacs turn crimson the beauty belies the chill in the air and we witness God's handiwork once again.

A good write, Kathy. Blessings to you this first day of September.
