I Don't Think I Can Say Goodbye

I Don't Think I Can Say Goodbye

A Poem by that-little-green-monster
"

When you can't believe that one person is leaving.

"

I don't think I can say goodbye,

Farewell is not in my dictionary.

I don't think I can say goodbye,

Knowing how much I'll miss you.

Whenever I see you my heart skips a beat,

And pink tints my cheeks.

When you're close to me,

I think of everything we could be.

But alas, our time grows short,

And you're already fading.

When I think of leaving you,

A place in my chest grows tighter.

I don't think I can say goodbye,

I don't know how to let you go.

I love you too much to see you leave,

And I'm relieved you feel the same.

This was a cruel read. Really. My goodness! As a reader, I am all set up to feel the grief of goodbye, and then you rein it back! This is a toying piece, and I find its a rare art. I love what you have done here. So unpredictably refreshing. The best part is that its so realistic. Who hasn't been in this place when with another? At a crossroads in a relationship where you could part or persist.

Artfully done. Keep it clever. You have a nice tone, and your prose are perfection.
