sail

sail

A Poem by Karen D Reeves

you laugh

at my reality

[thinking there is only one]

my foreign truth

with it's riddled tongue

of another place

that you tell me cannot be

and i tell you

that where are you are i

cannot stay

i left it long ago

no turning back now

but i will wait for

you who are in my heart

and therefore already where

i am

you just don't know it yet

perhaps you must first

come to the end of all you know

as i did

bored with your dusty

well-worn maps

now somehow incomplete

though you cannot say why

yearning for the adventure of

a new idea

perhaps then your ear will

catch on something in the wind

and the song of the horizon

will be too siren strong

and the tide too tempting

to not board your boat

and

sail

away

the bondage of your island

growing distant

and the time will come

a sun will rise

and among breezy waves

you will catch a glimpse

of me in mine

dancing

on the edge

of the earth
