Eden transformed

Eden transformed

A Poem by Kena Dawn Augustine

Eden transformed

Come and walk this garden with me

Where the fruit is plentiful and the land is free…

My body is stripped bare for you to see,

No false pretenses or insecurities, because it’s skin to skin,

I let you in, no apologies.

The abundance of our joy is stretched out as a verdant

Landscape beckons the sun, to provide vitality

Scintillating each and every sparkling sea,

With depths as deep as your heart invested in me…

Your lips are lush like a delicate fruit,

And we run the lands of gold

And uproot…

The vine which has spread all over the garden,

A vein traveling through my blood and yours,

And we are the land…first of creation.

As darkness falls and midnight silver coats the gold,

I know that my Father no longer has a hold,

Over my heart because I gave Adam my rib,

And felt he was my will to live.

Now another apple tasted sweeter than his lips

Which became bitter, and his hands cold.

I wanted a hold of the fruit that tempted me

From below, and I didn’t want him to know…

Temptation grew over me, closing my veins

So I no longer was one with the garden,

Things became rearranged…

My peace was shattered,

Beguiled by the serpent who slithered

His way into my heart,

And Adam no longer took a part.

Soft winds turned to rough winds,

Forcefully tossing waves into a frenzy,

I could no longer stand my sin…

Everything tame became wild,

My soul was ferocious, I cowered

At the sight,

That all the uproot I worked for in my garden

Was now amiss among beasts and

Deterioration and tears streamed down

My eyes because of the intensity

Of the situation.

But among it all my seed spread

Across generations, and although the

Ferociousness of the garden,

My love in Adam was now in

Celebration…

Of being a Woman, and knowing

I had more to share,

That the Garden lay in my body,

My heart, and my mind,

And I was the foundation of

This new design…

That I am every woman,

Despite my sins,

And it’s not where I have been,

But where I will travel.

And I kept moving forward,

Letting my future unravel.

For in all women lies Eve,

And Eden has transformed into

The world we now see.

And our light can cultivate

Future generations,

And seeds will thrive,

The Garden will grow inside

Of you and keep you alive.

For you are more than just flesh and blood,

You are spirit and soul.

You are Eve.

Author's Note

Kena Dawn Augustine
I had writer's block for quite a whilie( with poetry), not stories. And I was just listening to this poetic song by Pearl Jam called "Garden.." and it led to the idea of this poem..thing is many women can find many meanings in it, and search for how it relates to them...that's whatn makes this great.

We live in a modern day Garden of Eden, and in every woman lies Eve.

I like the story you create. I believe woman are the heart and the blood of life. Their emotion and desire can change the world.
"Of being a Woman, and knowing
I had more to share,
That the Garden lay in my body,
My heart, and my mind,"
A very good ending to the outstanding poem.

I went through all of your writings and this one made me feel at home.
I think what makes it great is that not only women, but men could also relate.

Well look who is writing again... very nice to see this posted...

we must be ourselves from the beginning in order to make a relationship last... some unique metaphorical references.
