Dear Child

Dear Child

A Poem by kingblaq

I'm sending you, child,
This little timecapsule because
By the time
You're old enough to understand my next few words
The times
Might not grant me the right ones

Child,
Treat every move like
The characters in every successful story franchises
The ones you have ever liked
And the ones you will ever like to see

The main characters.
The ones at the forefront
The ones you focus on
These ones are writing your story
These ones are big,
These ones you know
These ones,
Only the story is above.

The supporting characters.
The ones silently carving out the big story
These ones are the texture of the main characters
These ones are many
These ones affect the progress of the story
These ones you must never neglect
These ones, a terribly different story it would have been without.

The fringe characters.
The presumed after thought
The ones at the peripheral vision
The ones that nobody notices
These ones, child, do not be fooled into thinking that
They are irrelevant to your story
These ones you must never forget
'Cos these ones are the greatest plot twists at the very end.

I don't have kids yet, hell, I ain't even in any romantic relationship at the moment. My fear is, when I come around to doing those things, it's possible I don't have the right words. Hence, this time capsule

I do understand the above lines my friend. Someone must leave some truth. Powerful and wonderful words shared.

This is a wonderful write about prioritizing relationships through understanding their meaning to your life. Every person you interact with has a place in your story but be careful of the bit parts and the cameo appearances...the walk-on, walk-off glamour shots of self-made celebrities who might offer little more to your story than a bit of fluff and glitter. I liked this a great deal. Good writing, F.
