Sleep!

Sleep!

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A new side to this writer! x

"

Sharp and burned and image is set,

Fear and coiled a sickening scream,

Torn and wrenched from Mother's womb,

Frail and flawed a clear bright beam.

Caught between a solid and air,

Looking forward through time and light,

Feeling and thoughts covered with loss,

Snapped and focused with one close sight.

Questions now answered for you free,

A sleeping future now avails,

Some tired of breezes clenching teeth,

Sound of souls rested for now pre-vails.

The first stanza made me think of difficult birth, as if it were surgical, a C-section, but birth none the less. The second stanza made me think about life or being alive but being stuck in a kind of stasis between that and a death-like a photograph. The third stanza made me think of death and the fact that nothing matters in the end because you have found rest. Overall, may I use this word? Epic.

Wouldn't the second "and" in the first sentence be "an" instead? Just wondering.

This sounds like me a lot. I've been avoiding sleep due to reality mostly, but it also pertains to the nightmares I have when I am sleeping. You just want to escape it, and the few nights you do; you're oh so grateful.

This got me to think on the nightmares I have been having, but it's still a good write.

Unusual, definitely. Birth? Difficult and troubling. There is enough ambiguity for me to ponder a few different scenarios... a mother's death in childbirth, stillborn, or child born with disabilities. A good write - and I didn't lose sight of the fact that this is a different tone to your writing from what I have read previously. Always good to stretch our boundaries!

A strange birth...the first two lines of the second stanza seem to coordinate the poem...

love it! my fav line was "Caught between a solid and air," that metaphor really touched me in a way...because it seems so complicated

A new side, indeed...perhaps a more dimensional one.

An interesting write! I loved the first stanza the most. "Sharp and burned and image is set, / Fear and coiled a sickening scream" Awesome. ;)
