A Chapter by Carter Meyer
"

Sometimes, it's best to give things away.

"

Once upon a time he mumbled stories to me
from an unfamiliar world,
in a language I didn’t understand.

He taught me what it meant to ache,
and he told me how to whisper promises
like reading off a list of words.

His kisses had an aftertaste
of regret, his hugs smelled like
betrayal.

Sometimes, “he was a mistake” is another way of saying
“I really did love that boy”.

You are very insightful in your words Carter, and those same words are ever so heartbreaking.

The regret and the desire can twist us up. I like to dance on the edge. Nothing like a challenge or person to make us test the boundaries of life. I like the complete poem. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

Sometimes it seems that love isn't enough for each of us is responsible for our actions and the consequences that accompany them. In all that he taught you, the ache, the whispers, the kisses with aftertaste of regret and the smell of betrayal there is still that feeling that you really loved him and that is what hurts the most.

That third stanza sent me over the edge. Very powerful lines. When I read this it felt to me like he taught you to hurt and inflict hurt.
