Icy Dreams

Icy Dreams

A Poem by Olive Belikov

I watch from the window

as icy flakes fall from the sky,

creating a blanket of white on the once green ground.

I place my hand on the glass

and feel a chill spread through my body.

My eyes close for a moment

and I dream of how easy it would be

to go for a walk,

and never return.

To walk into the woods

and just collapse on the ground.

Letting all the sad memories

and depressed feelings take over.

I imagine the tears freezing as they fall down my cheeks.

I'd sit, propped up against a tree,

as white snow covered my lonely body.

And i'd let it.

Looking up at the sky is all i'd do

while the cold took over;

Making me shiver and cry,

until I shivered no more.

Until I was able to close my eyes

and know I'd never have to open them again.

Never have to be sad,

or lonely,

or deprived of happines.

I think of how much easier it would be

to just let go...

I open my eyes

and find myself sitting in front of a window

with my hand on the glass.

I let it fall into my lap - limp-

and stare as the color slowely returns to my fingers.

Then I stand, and walk to the door.

Slowely I turn the knob and pull it open.

Stepping out into the cold wind

I start to walk.

WOH!! Damn, that was amazing!!! :D I could definitely feel the emotions just pouring out in this scene, and felt like i was there with you, and just taking it all in. The imagery, the sadness, despair, the smell of the bitter cold, and the feeling of wanting to be set free of the pain, is incredibly vivid here. I've felt this a lot. Excellent write!! :)

This poem almost made me realize when we make our decisions, we go forward to them. This poem is sad in that relevance because the thought has become the one thing she desired. To fade away into the cold and her despair to take over. I love it for the imagery as well. Quite the write you have here.

A sad, but at the same time a very well written poem. I like how your work incorporates weather and mental mystique, it gives it a good haunting aurora. (:
