Childhood Dreams

Childhood Dreams

A Poem by Kaitlyn
"

...

"

You used to rise with the moon

And dream of collecting starlight.

You would reach for the heavens

And try to grasp it in your hands.

And when he saw you he laughed

“Your hands far too small”

He said.

You used to run in the field

And dream of catching butterflies

You would see them on the trees

And wonder if you could use their wings to fly.

And when he saw you he sighed

“You would not fly, you’d fall”

He said.

You used to lay in the sun

And wonder what tomorrow was

You dreamt of exciting things

And told your dreams to him.

And when he heard you he scowled

“Dreams are broken things”

He said.

It took selfish and intently particular effort for that "him" to be that mean-spirited and cruel. Welcome back to WC.

If real - it describes a child's life of pain. if not - real - you got it right anyway.
