A Poem by knightcall

my legs are heavy tired

sixty mile commute

interrupted by a man standing in the street

and another man with him

waving everyone over

giving everyone tickets

what can i do to convince

         the man

that  27.5 hours is enough

the secretary er administrative assistant

corners me

questions me about

scholarship money

what clothes i wear

at the same time

not so subtly

initimating my awards need to go home

the irony being

she awarded them

another attempt to make herself feel important

like making people enter the office

through the closet

so not to interrupt her quiet time

her cell phone

television programs and Ipod

i gamble with the night

do i want trauma

do i want long drawn out demises

they could get me home early

instead of 32.5 hours straight

copious amounts of Mountain Dew

keep me upright

but does anyone see the irony of

a man dedicated to serving the injured

driving home behind the wheel

after being 32.5 hours on the clock

what does sleep deprivation do for my career

other than jeopardize it on the way home

When I read this I automatically considered how I am feeling at this time and for some reason it spoke so truthfully I had to stop a second and review it. Marvelously penned.

So very true! I don't think the Mountain Dew is going to keep you very alert either. Thanks for sharing your more than a day with us. Keep on penning.
