the easiest part of big

the easiest part of big

A Poem by knightcall

the Louisiana sun isn’t forgiving

i’ve started this song over six times

trying to remember the words

it’s easy to remember the feelings

emotional memory has no rival

so i look for cloud cover

rose petals to fall from them

moist and fresh like a second spring

it’s okay to dare to pretend

it’s okay to pretend to dare

if i grew you flowers

and they wilted in the heat

wouldn’t you still have the memory

wouldn’t you still have the sensory

I burned all my reports

drop kicked my notebooks too

sometimes you have to break free

in order to be caught

i walk home with a ginger step

trying not to crush the petals

I sing the songs i used to not know

dancing to an overdue rain

so baby

soak me like the rain

let’s share an umbrella of a different kind

i know you’d want it that way

splashing the cool as two

This is a textbook example of poems I didn't like in high school, but that was before I fully appreciated poetry. This poem seems complex and full of ideas and motifs that you of course know, and want me (the reader) to understand. I have feeling it's about longing for ones hometown. But I like your style and grace. Keep it up, and if you can review some of my poems.

A poem I can explore and long to relate to though haven't yet felt such a sun although where I am from it can be nearly the same and I yearn to be someplace where the sun does not burn quite as bright. ^^*

I love it!! Your poem is awesome! This poem made me want to hum a few. It like a rebirth..a surge of new freedom ...awakening the mind and soul..

"Splashing the cool as two" what a wonderful way to end this remarkable poem. Most Excellent!!

Oh I can so relate to this! The Louisiana sun has been merciless of late with triple digits wilting more than just flowers. But grateful for the rain of the last two days cooling things off. But the romance in this poem is pure elegance Sir Knight! I love the rose petals drifting down. Surely the one you wrote this song to would gather the petals and store them safely away to bring out her treasure again one day and smile at the memory. Well done!
