Night

Night

A Poem by Kristopher Ross Koehler
"

A cloudy night while stargazing with my lover from a distance, was my inspiration for this poem.

"
The sun sets low in the bright orange sky.
And the moon comes out,
To greet you and I.

We look up at the same stars,
Many miles apart.

They shine so distant and bright.
Yet we share the same canvas,
Glistening with far-off light.

The atmosphere somehow connects us,
I feel your presence near.
And all the distance seems so small,
As I picture your beautiful face, my dear.

I slip off my leather sandals,
Rarely as I do,
My toes touch the damp grass,
And it makes me think of you.

You are barefoot on the sidewalk,
No doubt in my mind,
And so the sky and earth connect us,
Our souls, they do bind.

I close my eyes and greet you,
In the corners of my head,
You wave hello and smile,
And a smile, I too shed.

So on this dark night,
So cool, as we take part,
I felt my lover near me,
And her smile warmed my heart.

I go inside to sleep now,
In my dreams, you will appear.
I hold that image closely,
So steady, and so dear.

Quietly I hear you whisper,
"I'll meet you halfway there,"
I close my eyes and smile,
As I greet you in the cool night air.
