Feasting On Souls

Feasting On Souls

A Poem by Kristin Lee
"

Have you ever told the truth?

"

Look into my eyes sweet child;

And I will tell you a story,

That’s sure to drive you insane.

I saw it happen, it was a subtle bomb.

But, the dam that forces all of your secrets

Into their perfect little box,

Has finally come undone.

Tenacious spires rise higher and higher

Glinting with beautiful chaos;

Oh the madness it doth create.

They build a bridge that’s Heaven bound

But it’s barbed and burning

Like hells gates.

Oh, but I can’t believe my eyes!

Am I to understand, that you’re afraid?

Frightened to cross o’er this glorious specter?

It is after all, an imitation

Of your own wicked and twisted desires.

Fret not my pet, for I am here.

I will lick each salty tear.

What’s done is done.

You know, you could do it again.

But, you can never un-paint

All those wicked little LIES.

Oh. So sorry my darling,

I hate to see you in such pain.

Allow me to give you the gift of light

To better see through this darkest night.

There is one force in all the world

With enough gumption to brutally snuff

Unreasonable reason.

That force my dear, is always the truth.

Have you ever told the truth?

Oh my.

She has come undone.

I can see the formidable walls

Caging her lies

Falling like numbered tiles

To the dirty, dirty floor.

Dearest one, don’t you see?

You were absolutely right to fear me.

The masquerades almost over;

And, I’ve decided it’s your soul,

I’ll be feasting on for dessert!

Remember love,

As I dine upon your flesh;

Truth is the ultimate retribution.

And though it pains me to admit;

For posterity, I must confess;

You never did tell a lie.

I told you this story

Would drive you insane.

You were so innocent and sweet.

I knew, you’d make a most delectable treat.

And, dear God!  From the moment I saw you,

How I longed to watch you die!

The question that you have asked is brilliant for you have flipped the coin and asked if we have ever told the truth instead the other way around which people ask. A very good poem and it feels like a courtroom where you have to swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth...:)

thankyou , shall see more of you.................
This was an interesting read. Kinda of eerie and vindictive at the same time. I liked where you were going with the theme of the poem. You could start the name for a new genre here. I would call it "eeriesuspenseness". Nice job :)
