Tongue Tied

Tongue Tied

A Poem by Kristin Lee
"

Do I love you? Or do I hate you?

"

I said, “I love you.”

But meant to say, “I hate you!”

My words, blast how they’ve created

The delirium of a momentary truth!

Oh, how I love to hate you.

Caught up in the throes

Of this most passionate haste

Your eyes meet mine

Please, don’t let this be fate.

Lighting strikes

Thunder claps

Knees weak

I might collapse

Your hands on mine

Cosmic will

Utterly sublime

I said, “I hate you!”

But meant to say, “I love you.”

My words have clumsily misstated

the hearts infinite truth

Please, let these words

of affection, passing

ever closer to my lips;

Become forever lasting proof

Of the things I'd never say,

“Oh, how I hate to love you.”

Author's Note

Kristin Lee
Oh the volitle emotions of love and hate. And yet at times they hold such similar anxiety based rections. That's where these ticky-tacky puns come from. This is an experimental play on words and emotions. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for reading. Reviews are always welcome.

Passion is a muse of many faces, hidden. We are sometimes confused for one moment we want to shout "I love you's" and then, curse "I hate you" and never quite sure what for. It's because the heart beats softly one moment and races the next when touched by passion. Afloat on delirious emotion, we're tossed to and fro on a sea of expectations then crashing down painfully one moment and swept up the next. Your poem is a great example of this facet of the human condition.

Nice. The ups and downs of infatuated love can become a monotonous roller coaster unless you're willing to get off of it at a designated time. Great write. Compelling and intriguing at the same time. :)

That last quiet little line sitting all by itself says so much! Well done, Kristin!

Thanks :) How volatile love can be.
His answer...I love the way you love me, but I hate the way you hate me. Very cool Kristin.

:) Thank you. It was a fun experiment.
There's that fine line, both emotions bring out the best and worst in us. You've written it brilliantly...tongue tied sweet nothings. Sounds like love/hate.
