We're Just Like You

We're Just Like You

A Poem by Simplicity
"

Little poem I wrote on a whim. it might suck, it might not. 'bout goth and emos.

"

To all those people who call us ‘freaks’,

And think we’re Satan worshipers.

We’re people, just like you.

So what makes us so different?

Is it the way we dress?

Or the way we behave?

Is it because we’ve gone through things,

Things you could never imagine?

If I showed you who we really are,

What we really do,

And how we really act,

You’d see what I see.

People who face hardships,

Harder than some can imagine,

People who laugh and love,

And think about God and above.

We’re not that different from you.

We like different things,

We think different thoughts,

We dress differently,

But mostly,

We’re just like you.

I know you do! You and Sue are awesome and there is nothing wrong with it. Sometimes I can forget your 'gemo'or goth or whatever. Because you guys are the best. You are NOT freaks. Because they are retarded okay? they dont know anything. Let them make their stupid first impressions. No one ever is brave enough to see who is really there. Let them laugh because we are different but we laugh because they are all the same (wow awesome idea for poem) cool. Thanks. ... i guess.

Very true. It's sad that we are such a judging, stereotypical world. There are people unlike that though and those are who you should befriend. Very nice poem.

Ah, I was a Goth Girl back when Goth wasn't cool on the internet, or on TV, or anywhere, really. (About twelve or thirteen years ago, when I was starting High School) I used to take eyeshadow and lipgloss and mix it together to make dark lipsticks, like black and dark brown and deep purple, because you couldn't buy them in the store. I went to a little hick town High School in the middle of Nebraska, where everyone but me all dressed alike. You can imagine what I went through.
Why did I do it? I wanted, just a little, to YES, be a freak. I'm still a bit of a freak, and I'm proud of that- I just learned I had to alter my manner of dress when working and going out in public in order to hold down a job. Now people have to get to know me to realize how "different" I am, though really all I am is... HONEST. I'd rather stick out than fit in, any day.
Keep writing, and keep being you. Nice poem that brought back so many memories for me.
