Talons

Talons

A Poem by Jason Buskey

Whats left when

Memories talons

Slash through

Every smile

Every breath

That muffles

Screams

I don’t want it

Not now

I don’t want to remember

The gravity

Of burning embers

Spinning around

One another

Until they touch

Exploding

In a halo of

Inarticulate

Beauty

The pressure

On my chest

From your smile

Like a phantom limb

My fingers

Trembling

Stroking the silken

Curve

Of your earlobe

Languid whispers

Like lapping waves

Promising

You would never leave me

Never stop loving me

It was us against the world

These words

Draw knives

That drain blood

From every heart

But I was wrong

I want to remember
