Mask

Mask

A Poem by Leran Vakem

The mask you wear

makes me wonder

if you are smiling

or if you’re crying

My mask is broken

yet hides all from most

not daring to read

deeper than the face

Who are we really?

What do we want?

Where are we going?

When are we set?

Please answer

if you can show

me your eyes

behind your mask

Now that my friend was a brilliant ending. So many times we end up judging others so easily. Assuming that we really know the real person inside, only to find that actually we know nothing about that person. Some people are married for years and still have no clue who that person is that they are married to.

Loved the fact that you brought in those questions in your 3rd stanza, somehow forcing your readers to pause a bit to fully understand the depth of your words and where you are taking this. Questioning one's mortality in such a thought provoking way.

Brilliantly done, I really loved this one!

It just tells us that all of us do wear masks... even if it is "broken", we tend to live behind masks...

Nice work! :)
